Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to discuss the Rhythm and Poetry (RAP) as trigging mechanism of information process and development of community libraries on the suburban zones of the city of São Paulo. It is important to clarify that RAP is the way of expression of young people and using this language they make sharp and questioning arguments about their social, economic, cultural and educational conditions. The youngsters realized that to become a good rapper it is necessary to enlarge their repertoire and cultural ground leading to a collaboration process on information research and construction of new knowledge of the groups. Based on the experience of Biblioteca Comunitária Solano Trindade developed by the Força Ativa Group the needs and solutions to fulfill their information demands were pointed out taking into consideration that the area of São Paulo that they live, the district of Cidade Tiradentes, have not cultural public spaces available for the community. The conclusion indicates the Brazilian cultural problem, specially regarding access to information, reading and public libraries.
