Abstract

Reflection and description of experiences concerning the skills and competencies necessary for professional practice in the information sector. Attempts to point to the correspondence between university teaching and the world of work, in order to understand what role our profession plays in present society. A profession of great variety and in constant transformation demands from recent university graduates new competencies in order to adapt themselves to the work to be carried out and what strategies the universities ought to follow to modify the syllabi in accordance with these changes. The principal experiences are described which seek to determine the skills necessary for the generality of library and documentation professionals. We then verify the specific skills necessary for the job in units of concrete information. We also study how the new graduates are integrated into the job market, starting with the relations between university, employment and society.In this particular case, special attention is given to the Spanish context.
