Abstract

It presents an analysis of the academic qualification, the identity and the professional visibility of the librarian and the information scientist, based on the Brazilian literature in Library and Information Science. With this analysis it presents an understanding of what this literature considers or interprets concerning the social identity and professional visibility, which are two central topics in the recent speech of the professionals of these fields. Moreover, it exposes the way this literature considers, interprets ort reflects on the social recognition of the librarian and information scientist’s work.
