Abstract

The ceramics covering industry needs a systematical classification to facilitate the storage, the retrieval, and the access and the use of information. The purpose of this paper is to show a system of classification for such area, based on the conceptual knowledge map, mainly the faceted classification system and directions established by the Standard International Organization concerning the classification of information in the construction industry. It also gives details about the system structure of the faceted classification using categories, classes and subject-specific needs. Some conclusions are that faceted classification allows a better detailed description of the focused subject according to its specific needs and can be applied to some other contexts.
