Abstract

The article proposes to identify, from current trends, what is the future of Brazilian philosophy. The purpose is not to elaborate a historical review of what has been produced in Brazil, but rather to identify a set of trends available and compatible with our cultural conditions. Three different situations are characterized: a) one in which the typical procedures of European philosophy are imitated; b) one in which philosophy is tried to advance in order to incorporate Brazilian themes; c) one that indicates the possibility that the philosophical activity is redefined according to an effective approximation with Brazil. The proposition is that the future of Brazilian philosophy lies in the full realization of this redefinition, in such a way that it becomes a philosophical activity marked by pertinence with respect to Brazil. A hierarchy between these situations is not proposed here. However, due to the availability of national circumstances, it is observed that the future of Brazilian philosophy is to become Brazilian.
