THOR NOS ESTADOS UNIDOS: THE CHALLENGE OF THOR (O CERTAME DE THOR), DE HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW, 1861
Résumé
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow compôs seu poema The Challenge of Thor em 1863 d.C., figurando como prelúdio a outro poema, este mais longo, chamado The Saga of King Olaf. Oferecemos uma tradução do poema para o português à partir do idioma original em que foi escrito, o inglês. Também contextualizaremos o poema de Longfellow na tradução Oitocentista do Norse Revival e analisaremos alguns dos temas empregados pelo autor em seu texto, sobretudo acerca do deus Thor, contrastando-os, quando possível, com o que se sabe conforme as fontes medievais em que o deus figura.
