Abstract

The research project "Margins: Groups undergoing exclusion and their ways of inhabiting Pelotas", has the support of FAPERGS, and seeks to think of cities from their margins. The project is developed within the scope of GEEUR - Group of Urban Ethnographic Studies. The Margens team holds the event “Cities in Transe” annually. In 2017, the event had the theme "conflicts and resistance". The organization foresees conversation circles that favor the expansion of the debate between different communities and the university. The essay that we present here is related to each conversation circle. The communities represented are our interlocutors in the following extension projects: Domestic Work between the Past and the Present; Terra de Santo: Heritage of the Terreiro in Pelotas; Mapping the Night: the Transvestite Universe, and Narratives of Passo dos Negros: Exercise of Collective Ethnography for Anthropologists in Training. In our activities, we seek to strengthen the relationship between teaching, research and extension, valuing the multidisciplinary nature of research. The projects arose from the demands of the community, so the extramural dialogue has been present since the beginning of the research. Photography does not take place here as a mere record, but as a way to highlight these diverse groups, emphasizing their presence (or absence) in the city.
