Abstract

This article aims at understanding the notion of care in the field of nursing, against the background of the dilemmas and issues that run through the daily experiences of these professionals. Belonging to the health field, Nursing is an area defined by the notion of care, understood as the essence and specificity of the profession, which characterizes it as the highest level of professionalization of care. Through an ethnography with students and professors of the nursing undergraduate course of a public university in Minas Gerais, it was possible to understand how the conceptions about the notion of care had a predominantly scientific character. In this sense, we seek to connect this conception with the profession’s historical trajectory. In the end, we will demonstrate how this understanding had an impact on the way emotions were conceived and experienced.
