LULA'S BENCH WARRANT: framing and memory games at Folha de São Paulo

In 2016, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received a bench warrant from the Federal Police to testify. The order came from Federal judge Sérgio Moro, the main judge of the lawsuits connected to the Operation Car Wash. The polemic act has had a backlash in the press and has favored a public discussion about the topic. Folha de São Paulo journal has published a series of opinionative texts favoring and opposing the legal Police measure. The processes of meaning production have been investigated, from the framework obtained from these texts. Hence, we have structured the identification of the framing systems (ENTMAN,1993) to a discursive analysis from the "memory" concept (ORLANDI, 2007). The results suggest the predominance of the process of negative frameworks which deconstruct Lula's image.Downloads
