I seek to present, in a synthesized and simplified manner, what the American philosopher Robert Brandom has called the “modal Kant-Sellars thesis”, and propose exploring its consequences for the formulation of a synthesized image of the manifest and scientific images of the person-in-the-world. I interpret the modal Kant-Sellars thesis as a thesis about the constitution of human rationality as implying the insertion of the rational subject in a normative and inferentially articulated space of reasons. In its turn, this thesis implies the unification of the descriptive and normative vocabularies into one single image, which justifies Wilfrid Sellars’s project of unifying the images of the person-in-the-world according to an explicitly Kantian transcendental methodology.
