THEMATIC DOSSIER CALL: Musical Practices of the Past: subjects, sources, perspectives, and approaches
2026-01-15
This call invites submissions of articles on musical practices of the past, adopting an expanded notion of “source” — material traces and memories — and an interdisciplinary focus. Grounded in post-Annales historiographical transformations and in the reconfiguration of Brazilian musicology, it proposes dialogues with History, Anthropology, Ethnomusicology, and fields such as Archival Studies and Information Sciences, mobilizing social, cultural, political, gender-based, microhistorical, and decolonial perspectives in order to move beyond canons and hegemonic discourses. It also encompasses traditions that remain manifest in the present. Topics of interest include the treatment of collections, iconography, non-literate societies, mechanical reproduction, heritage processes, race and gender, sociabilities, moralities — from lundu to funk —, political uses of music, scientometrics, training, Artificial Intelligence and ethical dilemmas, as well as the challenges of the post-truth era.
