Abstract

This article presents partial achievements of a research that has been developed with two objectives. For one side, it aims at the realization of a thematic catalogue of the music and fortepiano solos and chamber groups in the Coleção Theresa Christina Maria of the Brazilian National Library. The works of this collection preceded and succeeded the moment of an important transition in the fortepiano touch, which occurred ca. 1805: the common touch (non-legato) of the Viennese school blends with the legato touch of the English school, resulting in a performance tending to a more legato touch. The research also aims at the study of the historical performance applicable to the period of the works in question.
Keywords: Piano. Fortepiano. Empress Leopoldina. Music in Imperial Brazil. Music from the classical period in Brazil.
