Abstract

This present review refers to the audiovisual autoethnography was carried out by two students in a postgraduate course in Music that approached the genre of the Art Song from an (auto)ethnographic point of view, aiming to critically address its contexts, practices, and processes of understanding, investigation, and performance. The discipline was conceived as a space to critically evaluate some consolidated and/or hegemonic precepts and practices in the field of the Art Song performance. This audiovisual autoethnography was born from the students' desire to approach the cycle Frauenliebe und-Leben, op. 42, by Robert Schumann, from a perspective in which the interpretation of the work was conceived (also) from and in relation to their own identities. As a result, in this audiovisual, students share experiences that would remain silenced if the act of studying Art Song was (still) circumscribed and restricted to the objectives and procedures consolidated by technical and academic institutions. This autoethnography is not presented as a product or result of research, but as a statement of the premises that may come to guide a future creative project, even before studying Schumann's Frauenliebe und -Leben.
