About the Journal

Scope

Launched in 2008, Culturas Midiáticas (CM) is journal sponsored by the Graduate Program in Communication and Media Cultures of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba (PPGC/UFPB). Its aim is the promotion of scientific production in the field of Communication and Information. The publication receives texts from Brazilian and foreign authors, focusing on research in the field of communication studies, its interfaces with audiovisual media cultures, and the media processes of daily life and the human imaginary. The Journal's objective is to promote ideas capable of discussing and transforming communicational and informational scenarios. From this scope, we encourage transdisciplinarity.

The Journal accepts theoretical and empirical manuscripts from PhD researches, in possible co-authorship with other PhDs, PhD students, masters, master students. We also accept co-authorship of doctoral professors with graduates and undergraduates, provided that the latter are linked to research groups and/or as an incentive for the publication of Scientific Initiation students (provided that this condition is duly explained in "Comments to the Editor"), respecting the maximum limit of one of such publication per edition.

Culturas Midiáticas accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, but also in English and Spanish. All submitted texts must present titles, abstracts, and keywords in the three languages. The journal publishes original and unpublished manuscripts, which may belong to the following categories:

ARTICLE: Presents original scientific themes or approaches (research reports and/or experiences, case studies, theoretical studies), contributing to broadening the knowledge so far established in the area; or review (with analysis and discussion of ideas already published, literature reviews, in addition to methods, techniques, processes, and results);

REVIEW: Appreciation and critical analysis of recent works.

Exceptionally, manuscripts that have already been published in foreign journals (translations) or event annals or excerpts from monographs, dissertations, and theses will be accepted (provided that this condition is duly explained in "Comments to the Editor"). In this case, the manuscripts will be submitted to the same double-blind peer-review process (see Author Guidelines) at the risk of waiting to be published in future editions, respecting the maximum limit of one such publication per issue.

Occasionally, there may be texts by invited authors in the editions. When this happens, it will be made explicit in the publication.

Periodicity

Culturas Midiáticas is a publication that receives submissions in a continuous stream, open to authors throughout the year.

Until 2020, CM operated with regular editions published in two issues per year.

From 2021, adopting the recommendations of international scientific standards for electronic publications, CM started to operate with a single edition per year, updated in a continuous flow (rolling pass or rolling publishing).

Therefore, manuscripts submitted by September 30th will be analysed to be part of the same year issue. If sent after this date, they will be analysed to be part of the next year issue.

Eventually, the CM also allows itself to promote extra calls for the publication of thematic dossiers, with specific and independent submission and publication periods of fixed editions, without previously defined periodicity.

Ethical Commitments

Culturas Midiáticas follows the codes of ethics, good practices, and transparency of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), in order to maintain the originality and quality of the works published and to ensure the good image of its authors, reviewers, and editors.

If there is suspicion of an ethical infraction, it is possible to contact the Journal through the e-mail revistaculturasmidiaticas@gmail.com. Reports will be duly registered and investigated by the Advisory Board, which will proceed in accordance with the processes of ethical conduct indicated by COPE, including response to the whistleblower and, if applicable, retraction of content.

Authors, editors, reviewers and readers have responsibilities and ethical commitments related to their role in the Journal.

COMMITMENT OF AUTHORS:

Submit unpublished texts in which all authors are duly aware, referenced and registered on the journal's platform. The author assumes responsibility for his/her manuscript. Excerpts without appropriate indication of citations and references will be classified as plagiarism, including those with the same authorship of the manuscript (auto plagiarism). All sources of information should be made explicit in the text, including those of images of all kinds (whose authorships should also be indicated) and links. By submitting a manuscript for consideration, the authors guarantee that there are no conflicts of interest in the publication of the text. If the manuscript is the result of funded research, the type of support and the funding institution must be explicit. The same manuscript cannot be sent for evaluation to Culturas Mediáticas and, simultaneously, to other publications. After its submission to CM, it must wait for its publication or its explicit refusal, the latter releasing it for new submissions in other journals. With the publication of the text, the authors undertake to promote publication of the edition, as well as update the production in their resumes (especially Orcid), among other networks and author's indexes (such as Google Scholar, Research Gate, Academia.edu, etc.), linking it to the journal. Authors with articles accepted for a given edition will only be able to resubmit new articles two years after the publication of their last work.

COMMITMENT OF EDITORIAL TEAM:

To conduct an evaluation process without discrimination of race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, political ideologies, religious beliefs, among others, using the principle of isonomy in the treatment of submissions, considering the scientific content and method, the relevance of research and its contribution to the area. To select qualified evaluators and reviewers and to guarantee a double-blind evaluation. To act with attention and promptitude to the demands posed by the Journal community. To promote wide dissemination of our scientific production.

COMMITMENT OF REVIEWERS:

To perform a critical and constructive review of submissions, to maintain academic rigor, as well as to encourage the improvement of scientific productions. Not to withhold or to base new academic publications on information and contents contained in the evaluated manuscripts, either in written or oral form, before it has been published and can be properly referenced. Comply with deadlines.

COMMITMENT OF READERS:

To mention source and authorship when sharing or referring to any content conveyed by Culturas Midiáticas. To notify and denounce to the Editorial Team any suspicions of ethical infringement related to the Journal..
