In the present article we intend to demonstrate some of the constitutive traits of the philosopher Hélène Metzger thought and philosophical method. Based on this, we highlight the mission of the science historian in observing the development of human thought throughout the history of science. We will demonstrate the function of multiple a priori in this development, the need for analogies, the way they were used by humanity and specifically their use in understanding the concepts of evolution elaborated by Metzger.
