NICOLAI HARTMANN’S NEW ONTOLOGY, TELEOLOGISM AND THE THIRST FOR MEANING

Abstract

We present Nicolai Hartmann’s critique to teleologism, i.e., to the use of Teleological Principles beyond its use in ethics: the investigation of nature and History, or the structure of reality rational. This investigation will be based on the philosopher’s “new ontology”, and also in his considerations on the manifold levels of reality (inorganic, organic, psychic and spiritual). Teleologism is a transposition of spiritual activities (planning and purposefulness) to the strata of organic and inorganic. Teleologism, regarding its motivation, comes to being due to the human desire of meaning and order in the physical world and in the course of history. Besides the motives of teleologism, we will investigate a specific kind of Teleological argument: the physico-theological argument, which places human being as the ultimate end of creation and/or of the course of history. After this critique, we will present how abandoning teleology can be beneficial to Philosophical thinking

Gabriel Almeida Assumpção, UFOP

Bolsista de Pós-doutorado Júnior do CNPq - Processo: 162879/2020-2. Instituição de Execução: Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP). Projeto: "Filosofia sincrítica e poesia: alternativas ao dualismo em Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis)". Professor Adjunto I na PUC-Minas, onde leciona psicologia positiva em cursos de pós-graduação latu sensu. Doutor em Filosofia pela UFMG (2020). Mestre em Filosofia pela UFMG (2015), Licenciado em Filosofia pelo Centro Universitário Internacional UNINTER (2019) e Bacharel em Psicologia pela UFMG (2010). Possui especialização em Formação Docente para EAD pelo Centro Universitário Internacional UNINTER (2022). Trabalha com Friedrich von Hardenberg [Novalis] (idealismo mágico, linguagem cifrada da natureza, poesia, sincriticismo), Friedrich W. J. von Schelling (filosofia da natureza, mímesis e pintura), Vittorio Hösle (ecologia, estética, idealismo objetivo), Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (flow, criatividade, artes marciais). Concluiu residência pós-doutoral no PosLit da FALE-UFMG (2020-2022). Traduziu as seguintes obras filosóficas do alemão para o português: 'Dedução geral do processo dinâmico' (1800), de F. W. J. Schelling; 'Filosofia da crise ecológica: conferências moscovitas' (1991), de Vittorio Hösle. Também traduziu, do inglês para o português, "Deus enquanto razão: ensaios sobre teologia filosófica" (2013), de Vittorio Hösle. Editou o volume "Filosofia da natureza e filosofia do mundo", parte do projeto "Obra filosófica inédita de Henrique Cláudio de Lima Vaz".
