This article aims to show the methodological foundations of an ongoing research carried out in the Master of the Graduate Program in Language and Teaching - PPGLE of UFCG, which investigates the supervisor-supervisor relationship in a professional master's degree at a Brazilian public university, the from the following question: how does the orientation process, advising the advisor, occur at ProfLetras / UFCG-CFP? In this sense, in the light of the ideas of the Bakhtin Circle, the context of the research is presented. In a second step, the entire methodological path used to generate the data is explained, as well as a description of the analysis categories. It is believed that this report of the methodological steps can collaborate for the study of scientific methodology to think about a set of planned actions from the survey of questions, hypotheses or problems to the procedures of data collection and analysis, as designing a research methodologically is so challenging as it outlines its scientific object, as it requires the proof of phenomena through systematic and verifiable methods and techniques around what we propose to study. It is concluded that research on social relations in the academic context of teacher training in basic education, proposing solutions to the daily problems found in classrooms, is a vast field of investigation.
