Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: A child in intrauterine contact with infectious agents may present serious clinical manifestations and multisystemic, even after years of the childbirth. In the case of the protozoan responsible for the toxoplasmosis, even in its chronical stage, the protozoan may continue to circulate on the body of the pregnant woman surpassing the placental barrier and reaching the fetus. Objective: To asses if there is perceptible changes in the neuropsychomotor examination of the newborn children to chronically infected mothers by Toxoplasma gondii. Methods: 79 newborn children composed the population of the study. It was carried out a sociodemographic interview with mothers through a questionnaire and an examination of primitive reflex in newborns. The analysis were carried out with the aid of the statistical package SPSS® 23. Results: The absence of the escape reflex to suffocation was found in two patients daughters of mothers exposed. Conclusions: The group of newborns studied did not present perceptible changes in relation to the group of control in the neuropshychomotor examination.
