Aims: to investigate the indications and findings of colonoscopies performed in patients hospitalized at a hospital in the south of Santa Catarina, from January 2015 to December 2020 and correlate with age and sex. Methods: this is an observational, cross-sectional epidemiological study. The data was collected from medical records of the patients aforementioned. Results: 423 medical records were analyzed. Elderly population prevailed in the sample (66.90%) and there was no significant difference between sex. The most reported indications of colonoscopy in medical records were: lower digestive hemorrhage (32.15%), abdominal pain (26.71% ). The most prevalent finding was normal colonoscopic examination (42.32%), and the most frequent alteration was colonic diverticular disease (36.64%), the least common diagnosis was, in turn, angiodysplasia (2 .13%). Conclusion: Despite high rates of exams without amendments, colonoscopy still is the chosen one exam for diagnosis and treatment of colorectal diseases, since it has low rates of complications. Therefore, an adequate treatment for patients with this internal examination is essential to contribute to the management of these patients.
