Abstract

In this article my scope is the Morro de Santana pilgrimage in São Paulo do Potengi. Located in one of the smallest municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte, Monte Santana hosts two important pilgrimages throughout the year: on the first of January and on the first Monday of August, called “Days and Waters”. I launch this religious celebration with the aim of analyzing the impasses in the process of building the devotional space based on the records published in the press of Rio Grande do Norte and the legislation relating to the control of the hermitage space. It is, to a certain extent, documentation that seeks to elucidate the pilgrimage as evidence of the municipality's visibility and the permanence of popular practices.
