Abstract

In this article, we propose a presentation and study of the ancient pseudepigraphic Jewish book known as the Testament of Job. Since it is a little-known work, the presentation requires that the book be situated in its historical, social and cultural context. As for the study, we use interdisciplinary approaches of the Religious Studies to present in the Testament of Job the effects of Mikhail M. Bakhtin’s “grotesque realism” and of the monstrosity, according to Jeffrey J. Cohen’s “monster theory”, and thus constitute a proposal for reading the text studied. Each of these three concepts allows us to explore the specific characteristics of this apocryphal book and point to renewed paths of interpretation to be followed in future research
