Abstract

New communication and information technologies have changed the way faith is shared and experienced in different religious fields, which use the digital environment to publicize their beliefs, events, and positions, creating a new way of relating to devotees. In this context, the article presents the work of young Umbanda practitioners on the TikTok digital platform, using the virtual ethnography method. Religious youth have taken over this space and publicize their own way of interacting with the sacred through short videos with Afro-religious content. The analyses indicated that young people assume their religious identities by exalting religion and its spiritual entities, teaching the foundations of religion, and Exu and Pombagira frequently appear with the meanings of protection and guidance.
