Abstract

The relationship between Schopenhauer and Nietzsche’s philosophy has been studied since the early years of the twentieth century. There are no doubts about the internal relationship that joins both thinkers, regarding Nietzsche’s reading. This study focuses on the distance from the Nietzsche’s approach to the required redemption of the will, presented by Schopenhauer. This research begins with a brief presentation of Schopenhauer’s position and it focuses on Nietzsche’s approach concerning the ascetic ideals. This article attempts to contribute for the understanding of one of the most important aspects of the philosophy of religion based on these authors, namely, the place of asceticism, morality, metaphysics and religion.
