Abstract

This article aims to highlight the religious aspects present in the trajectory of peasant leadership Manoel da Conceição Santos. Maranhense arrested and tortured in the 1960s by the state because of his activist activism in favor of land and rights in the interior of Maranhão. His trajectory highlights what we call in the trail of Grosfoguel (2008) body-politics-knowledge, in which his speech and his actions start from a geographic and sociological place located and have raw material in experience. The text is the result of reinterpretations of the autobiography “Chão de minha utopia”, and the biography “Manoel Conceição, survivor of Brazil”. The result points to an individual and collective trajectory that he had in the relationship with men and with the important marking gods, but, above all in the self-reflection on his lived experience, the elements that constitute him as one of the most important figures in the struggle for land in Latin America in Brazil and, in particular, in the Brazilian Northeast.
