This article develops from discussing communicative needs in the context of including refugees and migrants in Brazil. This way, three textbooks created for students of Portuguese as a Host Language (PLAc) are analyzed in terms of the specific goal of labor inclusion. Therefore, this article analyzes the language skills presented in these materials and discusses how they favor future job opportunities for refugees and migrants. This study is relevant to understand how books work on communicative skills for an audience that needs to adapt quickly to the new country. We dialogue with theories about teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language and, specifically PLAc, together with the theorization of authors such as Cànaves, Capistrano, Faria, Souza, and Carvalho et al., to present a basis for the learning process of this specific group. We discuss the textbooks Diga trinta e três, Sou todo ouvidos e Portas abertas, which prepare this audience for the job market.
