This text analyzes the poem "The Black", by Augusto dos Anjos, from the point of view of resistance to the ideological order that reserved the place of exclusion for peoples of African origin, denying them the right to voice and dignified life. The analysis was based on the critical thinking of Alfredo Bosi (1977; 2002; 2015), in particular on poetry and resistance, and on theoretical and reflexive thinking about the relationship between lyric and society, according to the systematization of Adorno (2003), Merquior (1997; 2013) and Holanda (2019).The main objective was to examine the poem, investigating its visible tensions in relation to the Brazilian historical and social process, referring to the context of its production - beginning of the twentieth century -as refusal and resistance to the current discourses of domination and domestication of the slave. From the point of view of refusal, it is a lyric that opens itself to the social leading the reader beyond the everyday of affliction, "towards a situation worthy of man" (ADORNO, 2003, p. 73), which is, at the same time, to resist and take refuge from the system of oppression.
