Resumo

This study looks in detail at an innovation from Partalopa saga, the Scandinavian adaptation of the Old French work Partonopeu de Blois. This innovation consists of inserting a list of precious stones into the Scandinavian version, therefore absent from the medieval French original. There are several possible sources for this list of precious stones. The most convincing link is Duggals leiðsla, the Scandinavian version of Visio Tnugdali. Lastly, a study of the lists of precious stones in the manuscript tradition of Partalopa saga and other riddarasögur would make it possible to pinpoint the stage at which these precious stones might have been included in medieval Icelandic literature for the first time. As far back as we can go, this would date from the archetypal Partalopa saga.
