Abstract

This study is part of the research carried out in the Graduate Program in Document and Archive Management and also the result of the discussions arising during the course on school archives organized by the SESA network.We seek to problematize the relevance of school archives in relation to school institutional memory, not losing sight, of course, of the importance of the management of school documents for the retrieval of information, whether for required rights, research or even for the practice of heritage education having as object the documents of the school collection.We have chosen as locus of investigation two state educational institutions located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, they are: the Madureira Youth and Adult Education Center and the State College Professor José Accioli.The results also indicate a lack with regard to the literature of the area, plus the need to reinforce the importance of the theme - school archives, in undergraduate courses in Archivology, pointing to a revision in the contents, aimed at a concern with the academic training of graduates, who often leave universities without even hearing about school archives.We conclude that the servers that deal with the documentation, in their majority, do not have theoretical and practical knowledge about Archivology, and the school secretary is responsible for the attributions focused on the organization of the documents.
