Racionalidade religiosa e debate público

Abstract

The philosophy of Habermas on religion defends that the democratic state must guarantee the diversity of worldviews originated from the multiple rationalities which constitute the current societies, promoting the dialogue among them. However, for such a dialogue to exist, it is necessary to recognize the rationality of the arguments presented. My question is: what kind of epistemology is able to allow a thought emerged from religious faith to be incorporated to public discussion? This article is divided in four parts. In the first one, the challenges of scientism are overcome, in the second the theistic attempts are evaluated and an epistemology suitable for religion is searched, the third section is about pragmatism and the fourth presents the outline of the type of pragmatism I stand for. In the final remarks, I briefly report some consequences of the presence of religious rationality as a builder of our social fabric.
