Historical trajectory of Library Education in Brazil

Abstract

This research tried to recover through a literature review of the history of library education in the country. This concern is amplified because of the proximity of the centenary of the creation of the first course, which was created in 1911, headquartered at the National Library in Rio de Janeiro. That way, tried to recover the influences that guided the teaching of librarianship. Passing thus the influence exerted on French National Library, and later, the American influence in the state of Sao Paulo, which caused an increase in quantity of courses in the various states. In addition to this survey, this research also sought to diagnose the amount of courses in regular operation in the country-level degree in librarianship, the year of birth and duration of courses, and determining the amount of post-graduation in Science Information.
