Conceptions that students of the sixth grade of the elementary school of the Basic Education Center of the FSSU have on insects

Abstract

This article aimed at presenting the results of a research carried out with students of the sixth grade of the Basic Education Center of the Feira de Santana State University in order to record their conceptions about insects. The data were obtained by means of a questionnaire with six questions. The results were analyzed quali-quantitatively by means of percentages and comparisons of the categories that were identified in the answers. The results point out that students do not have a clear definition of what an insect is. However, they recognize the importance of these organisms both to nature and to human beings.
