Abstract

This article aims at analyzing the literary trope of personification, more specifically the personification of death, Morte Caetana, in Suassuna's novel. Comparing the Morte Caetana with Fortuna and Frau Welt, the personification of the world in medieval German culture, a principle of ambivalent femininity that may be considered transcultural is being elucidated.
