Abstract

Analysis of the libraries role in distance education and of the services they offer, as well as the demand of students for information services. The study was based on a research done at the Centro de Educação Superior a Distância do Estado do Rio de Janeiro -CEDERJ. Data were collected about the EAD students habits in seeking and using information. Their demand for library services, was also analyzed. Questionnaires were applied to students from three courses. And librarians were interviewed about the services offered to the users by university libraries and the pole libraries. Some problems are pointed out, among which highlights the lack of publicizing the services provided by libraries and online interaction. Some initiatives and proposals are suggested as solutions.
