The objective is to identify points of convergence and / or divergence in the theoretical and methodological assumptions of studies on information services in libraries. Specifically, it aims to discuss the historical aspect of studies focused on information services and describe the main concepts of information services, problematizing their theoretical-practical aspect. It is justified by the need to verify, in the scientific literature, the epistemological configurations related to studies in information services in libraries, linked not only to their historicity, but also to their relationship with other areas and the characterization of current concepts and approaches. This is an exploratory comparative and analytical study. It resulted in the identification of the epistemological adherence of Information Science - CI to Information Services. It concludes that the information services are modified according to social demands, adapt and offer resources, seeking more and more to approach users. Current studies address the co-creation of value in the user-library relationship, considering a universe of complexity, where products and services merge in the midst of increasingly disruptive advances in information technologies. In the conceptual aspect, it was concluded that there is a difficulty in definition, since the information services are characterized as “middle activity”. However, it is believed that, for epistemological purposes, studies should consider conceptual specificities from the socio-historical context of the scientific and practical production of the activity and issue.
