POR UMA CRÍTICA À NATURALIDADE DAS CRONOLOGIAS: CONFIGURANDO UM MELHOR ENQUADRAMENTO CONCEITUAL DA PERIODIZAÇÃO NA ESCANDINAVÍSTICA
Abstract
The use of the Viking age concept is seen as a common point within the historiography specialized in medieval Scandinavia. In this article, we intend to carry out a critique of the periodization of the Viking Age as a concept used by several areas of human sciences that ared dedicated to this time slice. To this end, the importance of conceptualization developed by historians will be discussed, in general, so that it becomes clear the need to question the concepts used to refer to certain historical moments. In this sense, we seek to explain the problem involving the concept of the Viking Age from its construction in the 19th century to the most recente works, at the same time that a new conceptual and chronological framework will be proposed, which will be called the Viking Period.
