Abstract

In this article, we present the history and the daily practices of military police low patent of 4th Isolated Military Police Company of Pedro Afonso, situated in the north of Goiás state in the period from 1934 to 1964. The men who were engaged in military police were young, unmarried, illiterate, browns and without defined profession, from other states of Brazil, who sought in the police institution the means of daily survival. In the hinterlands, besides the police, for these men remained mining, the work in the furrow, the boatman labor, rower, or the protection service to farmers, by picking up weapons. Faced with few options, the police was an occasional choice before the opportunities and recognition lack. To be engaged in military police of Goiás, they needed to assert themselves as the authority. In this context, they had experienced the dilemma between the duties imposed by livery in the training and instruction process, legitimized by military hierarchy, obedience and discipline, and the common men, attributes, such as their condition of male, valiant and courageous that frequents bars and brothels. These men needed to be transformed into ideal policemen. Understand and analyze the daily practices of men universe within an institution of social control assumes give visibility to the subjects and their actions that do not necessarily follow the standards imposed by authorities or institutions.
