This article focuses on the reflections on Cornelius Castoriadis’ concept of autonomy, as discussed by Jürgen Habermas and Axel Honneth. It examines texts by these authors that directly engage with Castoriadis’ philosophy. The reach, or simply the coherence, of the concept of autonomy within Castoriadis’ philosophy is questioned by these two Frankfurt School philosophers, who nevertheless praise the importance and innovation of the Greco-French philosopher’s socio-political theory. However, they present counterpoints that highlight issues that accompany his entire philosophical maturity.
Keywords: autonomy, project, praxis, democracy.
