Lesbians’ mental health in times of the Covid-19 pandemic: a sociological analysis of the familial homophobia impacts in the social isolation context

Abstract

This article was developed to focus on the debate on family homophobia and consists of an analytical exercise, referenced in the sociological debate, about the impacts of homophobic familial violence on the mental health of lesbian and its deepening in the social isolation's context during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on theoretical of critical studies of gender and sexuality and the intersectional analysis perspective, we mobilize authors in these fields of knowledge to understand the specifics of lesbophobia and the greater vulnerability of lesbian to familial homophobia, and we also propose to think about the impacts of homophobic violence in the family context on the suffering and psychological getting ill of these women. On an empirical level, we used data from the Observatório LGBT of the Centro Municipal de Cidadania LGBT de Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, to present empirical evidence of homophobic domestic violence's deeping during social isolation and to analyze its respective impacts on the mental health of lesbian.
