Abstract

The controlled vocabulary is an important tool for information retrieval, since it intervenes in the organization and coordination of access points to minimize the major problems of an information system: duplication and dispersal informational. Thus, we present, in addition to provisions for the construction of a controlled vocabulary in archives, the semantic relations of synonymy, hyponymy, polysemy and hypernym, in order to confirm the importance of understanding these relationships for developing a more consistent vocabulary controlled. This contribution focuses mainly on linguistic control procedures terms and expressions in the vocabulary of a case study in the context of the Sistema de Arquivos da USP – SAUSP.
