CINEMATOGRAPHIC INFORMATION AND ITS RETRIEVAL INSTRUMENTS: The Working Up of a Thesaurus on Cinema

Abstract

This work reports the experience of developing a Thesaurus on Cinema, which was initiated with the discipline ŽDocumentary LanguagesŽ, and structured to aid in the organization and retrieval of cinematographic information. It was verified that in Portuguese Language, in Brazil, was lacking instruments to thematically treat documents on cinema and was also perceived an incresing use of specialized language in this area. So, it presents the actions carried through the construction of the Thesaurus, recognizing the Cinema as a support of information; the importance of a Thesaurus among the Documentary Languages and the necessary procedures to construct it. Resulting Thesaurus is composed by 216 terms organized in eight specific categories.
