This kind of work exceeded spaces as newsstand and bookstores, conquering its own place, causing the comics library. The comics collection at the Biblioteca Comunitária (BCo) of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) it was noticed that such works should possess a classification form to be adaptable to the situation and environment, for ones which classification systems as CDD and CDA are not suitable. The creation of a classification system for comics was the reason of this research. The present work was aimed at characterizing the importance of a classification system for comics; concept, identify and build a model of classification. Based on the studies on comics, in the works of those collections and the analysis on the existing classification systems, were drawn up strategies for the creation of a new proposal of classification. That proposal, made possible a comparison with the CDU’s Classification System, identifying the validation of this system, putting in practice the concepts presented in the field of Thematic Representation and the importance of flexibility, use and innovation in the process of information retrieval.
