Mediação algorítmica e a intervenção em fluxos informacionais

Abstract

Taking as a starting point the concept of mediation in Information Science and its extensions, this article discusses theoretical aspects of algorithmic mediation to content filtering in the context of digital networks. This is a narrative literature review, with collection procedures using the terms “information mediation”, “algorithmic mediation”, “information regime” and “algorithmic moderation” in English and Portuguese. The term information regime was used in the research, as it refers to the current context of information flows that occur in digital networks. Based on the literature retrieved, an analysis of the concept of mediation was undertaken to highlight the growing relevance of information technologies, indicating a new orientation of mediation categories in the context of Information Science as an outcome. The conclusion is to point out algorithmic mediation as a broad phenomenon, which allows connections between studies on mediation and information regime as an analytical resource to understand some of the complexities of contemporary society. Thus, it offers clues for a theoretical expansion regarding the importance of analyzing mediation as a process in which both the participation of human and non-human actors in the chain of production, circulation, and consumption of information must be considered.
