This study was carried out during the internship at the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande – RI FURG, between May 1, 2022 and January 31, 2024, with the objective of analyzing the metadata in the RI FURG authority catalog. The specific objectives included: a) reporting the research activities of the metadata of the RI FURG authority catalog; b) formulating and refuting hypotheses throughout the activities; c) presenting the results obtained. The methodology used was three types of research: 1) field research, carried out in person and remotely, to correct metadata; 2) descriptive research, with the aim of collecting and explaining data; and 3) experimental research, aiming to test and refute hypotheses. The results identified inconsistencies such as naming errors and non-compliance with the standards of the Institutional Repository and with the Anglo-American Cataloguing Code 2nd – CCAA2. These errors were mainly attributed to human errors, such as incorrect typing and inattention to the standards and errors in the system that caused duplications. The conclusion was that the study highlights the relevance of the FURG IR and the Digital Repositories – RDs for open science in Brazil, in addition to suggesting that the results can be applied both at FURG and at other institutions, aiming to improve their services and increase interest in the repositories.
