The Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG), one of the oldest scientific institutions in Brazil, played a fundamental role in the origin and consolidation of Librarianship in the State of Pará. This article investigates how the work of the MPEG library contributed to the formation of a professional and academic field in a region marked by social inequalities and educational limitations. The objective is to highlight the connections between the institutional strengthening of the museum and the development of Librarianship in the Amazon. The research is justified by the need to understand the historical milestones that made possible the emergence of technical and higher education for librarians in the North region, taking as a starting point pioneering actions such as the organization of technical training courses and the hiring of Clara Maria Galvão, the institution's first librarian. The methodology used is qualitative, based on bibliographic and documentary research, using primary and secondary sources on the history of MPEG and Pará's library science. The results highlight the Goeldi Museum library not only as a space for storing collections, but as a center for the production and dissemination of knowledge. The conclusion is that the museum's trajectory highlights the connection between science, culture and society, demonstrating that the history of Librarianship in Pará is closely linked to the work of this institution. The study contributes to the recognition of institutional memory as an essential element in the consolidation of public policies aimed at education, research and the democratization of information in the Amazon region.
