Abstract

Experience report regarding the digitization of historical documentation arising from the activities of the Oficina Guianases de Gravura, an important art movement in Pernambuco that lasted from 1974 to 1995 and whose collection is currently under the responsibility of the Department of Art Theory of the Federal University of Pernambuco. The article describes the scanning process, enumerating the following steps: identification and preparation, scanning, selection, database construction, technical processing and delivery of digital documents on the Internet. As results, files in digital media were obtained, providing its conservation in this type of media and its availability to the public. After participating in this work it can be understood that the scanning provided the conservation of the memory of great artists from Pernambuco, besides enabling that a larger number of people have access to the collection through the Internet, contributing to the free dissemination of information. It appears therefore that the digitization of printed documents is currently one of the most efficient means for their preservation, being of great importance to society.
