The implementation of sustainable practices in the routine of public institutions contributes to the achievement of strategic objectives aimed at sustainability and environmental preservation. This study aims to identify the main sustainable initiatives disclosed to society as practices adopted by the Federal University of Pará, which aim to optimize financial resources, improve people's quality of life and preserve the environment. The study is characterized as exploratory and descriptive, with the support of bibliographical research on the promotion of environmental sustainability in public administration and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. The data was taken from the website and management instruments of the Federal University of Pará: Institutional Development Plan; University Statutes; Sustainable Logistics Plan; and Annual Management Reports. As a teaching space conducive to incorporating sustainability into its routine, information was identified on eight sustainable initiatives developed at the University. We also recognized the close dialogue with society in Pará through campaigns and actions focused on sustainability, promoting public awareness and sensitization about environmental preservation. The Federal University of Pará has been helping to achieve the objectives of sustainable development in various dimensions by adopting sustainability practices, with a view to preserving the environment. Information Science helps to provide information about these initiatives, which are significant for society's knowledge and engagement in environmental preservation. It is suggested that future studies be produced on the impact of sustainable practices carried out within the public higher education institutions that are part of the UniSustentável Network.
