Abstract

This paper focuses on Ernst Widmer’s mature style, observed in Jahrestraumzeiten (1981), a work for two solo flutes and string orchestra composed in 1981. The reading of an autobiographic text – “Sketch of a self-portrait under different points of view” – written by the composer in 1980 conduced the observation of the multicultural aspect in Widmer’s musical discourse to the track of signification. Thus, the identification of the main technical and ideological traits, which can be recognized as European and Brazilian influences, are finally interpreted under the perspective of autobiographic projection, of “fantasy on the fulfillment of desire”.
Key words: Ernst Widmer. Brazilian music. Cultural hermeneutics.
