Abstract

How have dissident subjects been represented in Latin American cinema? Based on this question, the films Alice Júnior (2019) and Una Mujer Fantástica (2017) were chosen as the object of study, addressing the relationships between the protagonists and social institutions. The research aims to identify the power relations present in a hegemonic discursive field about the transgender, focused on the main characters, Alice and Marina. The methodology is qualitative, based on an interpretative analysis of discursive aspects related to the transgender, identifying scenes that highlight the power relations in which the characters are immersed, and where the foreclosure of the subject and the violence are addressed to the trans bodies. Cinema presents itself as a form of reflection and refraction of power relations in contemporary society, producing new perspectives and questions about trans subjectivity.
