THE CONFIGURATION OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN BRAZIL IN THE FACE OF NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

This article presents the results of a study of Brazilian University Libraries carried out to verify the current state, and the present and future needs of these libraries in the face of new information technology. The data collected reveal that the libraries are receptive to the use of new techniques and the conclusions indicate administrative , educational and scientific measures that should be immediately implemented if the University Library is to be able to take control of and direct its own process of technological change.
