This is a dialogue by the Dutch philosopher François Hemsterhuis (1721-1790), entitled 'Sophile, or On Philosophy' ('Sophyle ou de la philosophie'). In this dialogue, arguments are presented in favor of the existence of the immaterial soul and its immortality, while also delivering criticism against materialistic philosophies influenced by Newtonian ideas that were spreading throughout the 18th century.
